What Are The Symptoms Of Diabetes?
There are several signs of diabetes that you can look for. Be aware that the onset of many of these symptoms are subtle or can be erroneously attributed to other illnesses. It is a good idea to be screened for diabetes regularly by your doctor.
Diabetes symptoms are as follow:
· Frequent urination. You will find with this symptom that despite your normal liquid intake you have to use the bathroom more frequently.
· Relentless thirst. With this symptom you feel like you can not get enough to drink even if you have just gulped down a large glass of water.
· Weight loss. This is one of the many signs of diabetes especially associated with Type 1 (juvenile diabetes). Because glucose is not making it to the cells in your body to provide them with energy they need the body compensates. Instead it will break down muscle and fat stores to use as energy in place of glucose.
· Fatigue. Because the energy providing glucose cannot get into our cells there is a feeling of fatigue. In addition weakness may accompany the tired feeling.
· Numbness or Tingling in Extremities. This is another one of the many signs of diabetes. It is a result of damage to the nervous system due to high sugar levels in the blood. The medical term is neuropathy.
· Blurred Vision. While vision troubles do set in as we age this can also be one of the many signs of diabetes.
· Other diabetes symptoms include: Dry, itchy, skin all over your body. Cuts or other wounds that take an especially long time to heal. These are also a result of too much glucose in your blood and not enough in your cells.
If you are experiencing any or a few of these symptoms it is vital to make an appointment with your doctor. If found early there are many effective treatments to reduce or do away with all or some of these symptoms. In addition early treatment will help to prevent further damage to your heart, kidneys and circulatory system.
